what is a yurt? / yurts in cornwall
Cornwall is a fantastic place to visit. With some of the best beaches in the UK, most highly regarded surfing and water sports, stunning coastal and moor walking, fabulous local produce and host to some of the UK’s top restaurants. You’ll be hard pressed to find a better location and more special environment than Cornwall, for a yurt holiday.
After enjoying the great Cornish outdoors you’ll look forward to returning home to your yurt, designed for specifically for the climate we have in Cornwall. Different climates demand different requirements for the structure of a yurt. High elevation, high snowfall or high wind areas call for a different approach than tropical climates with high rainfall and hot temperatures. In Cornwall we experience a little of all these factors.
Being round, yurts make better use of space than their rectilinear counterparts as they are more efficient to heat and provide less wind resistance. Each yurt is furnished with a fabulous log burner so should the sea bring a chill to the air you can light your log burner giving instant warmth and romance to your yurt.
Our yurts are protected from the dominant South Westerly wind by a slope and hedgerow. They look out to the west over the hills and out to sea.
The specially made fabric cover is fully waterproof, with thermally welded seams suitable for the climate in Cornwall. We know it rains in the UK, so all the roofs have a built in rain diverter so you wont get dripped on as you open the door. Unlike traditional canvas covers, it doesn’t leak, hold damp, stain or rot. All the fabrics used in the roofs are fire proof, waterproof, rot proof and UV stabilised. The walls of the yurt are breathable and cool in the summer. They have two circular windows, each offering 3 layers that allow for combinations of privacy, light, ventilation and security.
